RESOLUTIONS
by Carol Lockhart – 1st January 2012
New Year Resolutions, it’s that time of year again
Promises made about things from which we will refrain
No smoking, no drinking, we’ll diet and go to the gym
We glow with self-righteousness, ‘cos we’ve cut out the sin
But slowly our resolve starts to ebb away
Those old bad habits are surely here to stay
Now in my case, I really must lose weight
As the clothes in my wardrobe are rather tight
Too many chocs and naughty mince pies
It’s no wonder that I’ve gone up a size
I’ve joined the gym and will start next week
A stone off by Easter is the target I seek
The trouble is I really like my food
And too many things taste so good
Stilton on steak, cakes and apple pie
I just keep pinching bits on the sly.
And I really must put the red wine away
Just seeing the bottle leads me astray
Turning off the ‘box’ is another must
In bed by ten so my sleep pattern adjusts
Then I’ll be up like the lark and off to the gym
Swimming, Pilates, cycling – I’ll soon be slim
But I wonder how long this resolve I can keep
Or back to the chocolate and cake will I creep?
Now what about all of you others here
What resolutions have you made for the New Year?
Will you give up the chocolates, fags and booze?
Come on folks, what have you got to lose?
Or will you say, let’s get sozzled, puff away and get fat
No, I don’t think so, you have had far too much of that
Just remember that life is not a rehearsal
It’s not so easy to go into reversal
Look after your bodies, exercise and eat well
You’ll look and feel better and soon it will tell
So keep that resolve, to yourselves just be true
Then your New Year promises will see a New You
But to enjoy our retirement we all came to Spain
So from the wine & goodies do we want to refrain?
No not really – did I hear you all say?
All things in moderation is the game to play
So let’s drink the vino, eat paella & have fun
After all folks – 2012 has only just begun!
HAVE A VERY HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR
