WEBMASTER

I spent the majority of my working life in the Inland Revenue Department – that was long before the merger with Customs & Excise, since when the department has been known as HMRC. The work I did mainly covered running groups of Revenue Officers or doing technical casework, although I was also responsible for some time for the maintenance of the building, which involved fascinating things like choosing the colour of the paint for the loos, making sure that the painters didn’t disturb the work of the staff, and going on Health and Safety courses! When I started in the office, in 1961, it was all pen and paper, and masses of filing, but, in the 80s the Department began to get itself computerised and I took to it like a duck to water. In my final two years before retirement in 2003 I had the opportunity to work in the Area IT Team, and was made responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the website – and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I came to be the Webmaster…

I live in Sanet y Negrals – another member who doesn’t live in the Jalon Valley – with my partner, Peter Tomlin of the Digital Photography Group, and my disabled husband, Bill. I do occasionally go back to the UK, to visit my son, my daughter and her husband, and my two granddaughters – but mainly, they like to come over here! And so does my sister; she is such a regular visitor that we persuaded her to be a model for the Photography Group’s photoshoot in the summer.
