A plea for help ……..
U3A Pop-in-Group Group Leader: Michael Bulleid
At the moment our group is three in number.
Our aim is to be of assistance to those in need of a visitor to talk to; to ask for some small favour that personal circumstances prevent them from doing for themselves. We have not yet had any calls of help from 3rd Age members, nor requests from well-wishers on their behalf. So instead we are visiting La Colina Nursing Home in Calpe.
We visit on our own personally convenient days. No set times and no minimum visits. The Residents are always there!
In the Home there are those who are capable of full speech, but have mobility problems. There are also those who are suffering severely from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. They will never be able to speak back and they probably do not recognise us, save for the sound of our voices. To these we give 10-15 minutes of one-way talking. It is difficult to know if a grunt is a response to us; we like to think it is. We ask for nothing more from them.
These are the forgotten ones. They have no visitors save us and the staff who do not have the luxury of the 10-15 minutes that we retired-ones have for them.
Does this act of an occasional hour of your time appeal to you as a GIVER?
If so we/they need your personal help. They cannot ask for it!

We continue to visit La Colina Nursing Home
We are 3 in number
Many, if not most, of the residents do not have visitors
We are their only non-staff changes of face
Alas at least 6 of the residents are severely handicapped mentally by Parkinson's or Alzheimer's
The others are speakers, but not mobile
Some do not know us at all; some may recognise our voices. One sometimes grunts, but it is difficult to know if that is a greeting and a thankyou
We would like a few more Jalon Visitors
