Afternoon Tea

Charity Afternoon Tea a hot summer's day

Tuesday 20th May saw 120 u3a members, Paws supporters and friends gather in our garden for a quintessentially English afternoon tea on a rather hotter than English day!

Jalon Valley Help

Jalon Valley Help

The charity Jalon Valley Help (JVH) was originally formed over 25 years ago to buy Ambulances but as you now know there is a system in place and that is no longer necessary. What is necessary and a fundamental part of the service to the community is the provision of medical beds, mobility aids and equipment such as hoists to provide a hospital in the home.

President's Message

President's Message June 2025

We have recently enjoyed some wonderful events and trips, as reported elsewhere in this newsletter, and have much more to look forward to: including the Party in the Pak at Los Arcos on 19 June and our summer dinner dance at the beautiful Vall del Pop restaurant in Lliber on 29 June. A few tickets are still available for both events; in case you have not already signed up!

VE 80th Anniversary Celebration

80th Anniversary of VE Day celebrations 8th May 2025

On 8th May 81 of our u3a members celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE day at our General Assembly. The hall was bedecked with red, white and blue bunting, decorations and flowers, the tables were adorned with red and white plants, fine bone china cups, a table quiz about WW2 and copies of black and white photos from the era.

Valencia

Valencia Trip

We went to the beautiful city of Valencia for the day.  Leaving a cool and rather damp Jalon at 8 o’clock to travel in a comfortable coach, we had the best part of 6 hours to explore the city as we wished.

Power Outage

Power Failure

What can we learn from the recent major power outage?

On 28th April there was a massive power outage that hit Spain and other European countries. Within 5 seconds 60% of the grid network power collapsed and millions of households were affected. Public transport was at a standstill, internet and mobile phone services were down and emergency services were operating in crisis mode. This was the worst electricity blackout in Spain´s history.
