Benimeli Singing

The Let´s Sing Together group was kindly invited to sing at Benimeli residential home on 3rd March as part of their carnival week. We have visited before and it was lovely to see some familiar faces as well as new residents.

We had chosen 15 catchy, uplifting, sing along songs from the 1950s onwards that some residents might know including Doris Day and Dean Martin, John Denver, The Carpenters, Herman´s Hermits, Sandie Shaw and Neil Diamond´s ¨Sweet Caroline¨.

From the start some residents sang along, others clapped and foot tapped and a couple even enjoyed a dance. It was apparent music is a great source of pleasure and triggers memories, which is what we had hoped for.
When we had finished our repertoire we sang 3 favourites again and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the session, both residents and ourselves. They applauded enthusiastically and there were lots of happy faces. Once gentleman even remarked we were the best group they had to entertain them, but maybe he was being polite and says that to every group!

It is an honour to be able to give back in our community and bring pleasure to people less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you to everyone who gave up their afternoon to come along. The coconut cake and mistella was a very welcome treat afterwards!
