The Digital Photography group includes those with a lot of experience of digital photography and others who are newcomers to the hobby. We are now operating very definitely as a peer group with members bringing their skills and ideas to share with one another, and aiming to learn from one another and to cater to a variety of ability levels.
We have monthly field trips (weather permitting), which take us to as varied photographic locations as the Albufera wetlands, Javea Harbour and Fisherman's Church, Valencia, Simat Monastery and Las Salinas in Calpe. This year we are planning to go to Xativa Castle, Altea, Guadalest and the underground river in Valencia. Ideas for field trips are always welcome from our group members.
These trips alternate with group Tutorials at Casa Claudia’s in Jalon, and are designed to serve a number of purposes - providing members with an opportunity to share their photos both from the preceding field trip, and their own activities, receiving constructive feedback on these from the group.
Individual members can provide tutorials on themes within digital photography. Members can bring their questions and problems, and receive help from the group. We use part of the meetings to plan future activities, and set various photographic themes to encourage imagination and good practice. In addition, we are seeking ways in which members can get their photos seen. Apart from the group meetings, we have a private Facebook page for members to display their work; we put on an exhibition at the annual u3a Open Day, which is well received; group members take part in the various photographic competitions in the area; and more recently, several of us have had photos printed in The Post’s photo page.
Overall, our aims are to develop our digital photography skills in a social and safe group setting; and importantly, have fun doing so. If you would like to learn, or improve your photography, please do get in touch with us as we are happy to welcome a few new members to this very active and social group.
