On Wednesday 26th September the U3A Vall del Pop Wine Tasting group had their first tasting of the season at the Black Apple Bistro in Jalon, which intriguingly shares the premises with the florist “Heidi’s Flowers”. As the weather was showery our tables were set amongst the beautiful flowers. 31 members attended. A lively night at a new venue for us.
The Yarn & Thread Group has just started its second year and meets twice each month, 2nd & 4th Monday mornings, at Bar Cappucino in Orba.
Regular exercise is good for your mind, mood and memory. No matter your age or current physical condition, joining a Keep Fit group is an enjoyable way of being active.
A bright sunny day, free parking, free entry, minimal security around the showjumping ground and Olympic Champions to talk to. Wonderful! Apart from someone’s sat nav getting a little confused…everyone made the 11 a.m. meet in good time. A strong waft of horsey stuff led us in the right direction. Time for a coffee. Brace yourselves... 3.30€ a cup, and rather lukewarm at that.
Nearly 50 U3A members thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the All Saints Fair (Feria de Todos los Santos) in Cocentaina; a fair that has been running every year since 1346. Arriving at 11:00 am and leaving at 4:30 pm meant we were walking around for five and half hours, but there was plenty to see and do to fill that time.
The blue hair was startling - more of that later! Sheila began her talk by explaining what prompted her to clock up more than 20,000 miles on a bicycle saddle! She was office bound in Scotland, but did some work related travelling around the UK. One day, on the M6 motorway, she noticed a man crossing a bridge. With a rucksack on his back and his head in the air, enjoying total freedom. Sheila realised how trapped she felt, and determined to do something about it. A touring bike proved to be the answer.
